Kuwol

Mount Kuwol is another of North Korea’s 6 celebrated mountains, located in South Hwanghae. The mountain takes its name from the ninth month of the lunar calendar, because it is considered particularly attractive in that month. It is a major summer resort in North Korea, attracting many domestic tourists.

The mountain range covers an area of 110 kilometres and rises 943 metres high. Only 100 kilometres from Pyongyang, it is often combined with a visit to Nampo, Sinchon or Sariwon, from where it can be visited en route to Kaesong, or alternatively you can return to Pyongyang within the day.

Mount Kuwol is home to the 9th century Woljong Temple, Sansong Revolutionary Site, Mount Kuwol Fort and the stupas, as well as the 4th century Anak Tomb No.3.
