Taking photo in DPRK

Taking photo in DPRK

There are many restriction on photography that have to be abiden in North Korea (DPRK), and there are certain places where pictures are not allowed and our local guides will let us know when not to take pictures. Generally, pictures of the military are prohibited. You will find your guides are sometimes quite sensitive about photography, especially if it is of something deemed to ‘misrepresent’ or paint the country in a negative light. Please defer to our local guides if you are unsure about the protocols when taking photos. The Koreans do not examine your film or force you to delete the films you have taken (although the customs officials at Sinuiju may ask to see your pictures). Video cameras are generally prohibited but can be taken on some occasions, again restrictions as to their use do apply.

Always ask permission, and if refused, please be reasonable and accept this. As we say above, the DPRK is a unique travel experience unlike anywhere else in the world, and comes with its own peculiarities. By adhering to these, you will gain the respect and trust of your guides.
